Heart is alternatively known as Black Lady, Rickety Kate, The Dirty, Dark Lady, Slippery Anne, Chase the Lady, Crubs, Black Queen, and Black Maria. However, it's worth noting that any of these aliases might also denote a similar but variably scored game called Black Lady.
Belonging to the Whist family of trick-taking games—alongside Bridge and Spades—Hearts distinguishes itself within this group as an evasion-style game.

In this game, players typically incur penalty points for acquiring cards within won tricks.
